How do I message my team?
Last updated
Chat is between adults — you and the parents or adult athletes connected to you, plus team and staff conversations. Messages are text and emoji only.
Everyone with an account is an adult, so every conversation in Team Assist is between adults. For an athlete under 18 that means you’re messaging their parent or guardian.
Nobody under 18 appears in chat. They have no account, so there’s nothing to message.
Conversations
Messages live behind the Messages button at the top of the screen. There are three kinds of conversation:
- Athlete conversations — one-to-one with the connected parent or adult athlete for a particular athlete. These are marked “Athlete thread”.
- Team conversations — a group conversation around a team.
- Staff conversations — with staff members you’ve added.
To start one, tap New Message and pick from Teams and Groups or Athletes & Parents. Only people actually connected to you appear — chat follows connections, so there’s no directory to browse and nobody can message you out of the blue. Connected parents and adult athletes can message you the same way from their side.
Some team conversations can be view-only for certain participants; if that’s you, the composer says “You can view this thread, but you do not have posting access.” Each conversation has an info button showing who’s in it and who can post.
What can be sent
Text and emoji only — the conversation says exactly that at the top. No photos, files, or voice messages.
Sending, and what the labels under a message mean
While a message is on its way it says sending… underneath; once the server has it the label goes away and the message stays exactly where it is — it never disappears and comes back. If it genuinely cannot be delivered — for example the connection it belongs to needs a new invite — the label changes to Not delivered with the reason, and the message stops pretending. Your text stays visible either way, so nothing you wrote is lost.
When someone wears more than one hat — the same person is both a coach and a trainer, say — each message shows which role it was sent as, so a conversation never leaves you guessing who you’re talking to.
Editing, deleting, and history
Messages can’t be edited after sending. You can delete a message you sent: long-press it and choose Delete Message. It leaves your phone right away and the other side’s within a minute or so.
Messages are kept for 30 days. Anything older is removed from every phone and from the server on the next launch — keep what matters somewhere else.
Your conversation history lives with your connection, not with any one phone. Sign in on a new device and the conversation is there; delete and reinstall the app and it comes back. That also means clearing a conversation from one device doesn’t remove it — the history returns the next time the conversation syncs.
