How do I connect to Companion?
Quick answer
On Connect, tap your Companion under Found on network, or type its Host and Port and tap Connect. The app remembers it and connects again when it opens.
Find it on the network
- Open Connect.
- Look under Found on network. It says Looking for Companion… while it searches.
- Tap a name to connect.
- Companion 5 announces itself by name.
- Companion 4 shows as Companion at plus its IP address.
- Keeps looking. The list refreshes every 20 seconds while Connect is open.
Type the address
- Host — Companion’s IP address.
- Port — Companion’s Satellite WebSocket port. The app starts with 16623.
- Surface Name — how this phone shows up in Companion.
- Tap Connect. Tap Disconnect to stop.
It remembers you
- Free. No purchase needed.
- Last Connection — the card on Connect shows the Companion you used last.
- Connects on launch. Turn this off in Settings → Connection → Auto-connect last.
- Auto reconnect — tries again if the link drops. On by default.
More than one Companion
- Save Server keeps more than one. That is Multi-Instance.
