How do I get started?
Quick answer
File Sweep is a Mac app that finds duplicate files, files of one type, or files by name, in folders and drives you pick. Click Add Location, pick a mode, then click Search.
What it does
- Finds duplicate files — the same file saved more than once.
- Finds files of one type — like all videos or all images.
- Finds files by name.
- Moves or deletes the files you check.
- Runs on a Mac (macOS 14 or later).
The window
- Left side: LOCATIONS — the folders and drives it searches.
- Top: three modes — Find Duplicates, Find File Type and Search Name.
- Below that: filters and the Search button.
- Middle: your results.
- Bottom: Select, Move… and Delete….
Add a location
- Click Add Location, pick one or more folders or network drives, then click Add.
- Or drag folders onto the LOCATIONS list.
- To remove one, point at it and click the x.
Your first search
- Add a location.
- Pick a mode at the top.
- Click Search, or press ⌘↩ (Command-Return).
What it keeps
- Only your locations. The list is there next time.
- Results are not kept. Quitting erases them.
- Closing the window quits the app.
