File Sweep Help

Something isn't working — what do I do?

Quick answer

Most problems are a missing location, an empty search box, or a drive that isn’t connected. Check the list on the left, then search again. Still stuck? Email support.

Search is greyed out

  • No locations: click Add Location first.
  • Search Name: type something in the Name box.
  • Custom…: type at least one file ending.
  • Already searching: wait, or click Stop.

“Nothing found”

  • Try a different filter or location.
  • Check the Size filter. Set it to Any size.
  • Check Res for videos. Set it to Any.
  • Hidden files are skipped.
  • Files inside packages are skipped — for example, a Photos library.

A location says “Not connected — skipped”

  • The drive isn’t connected right now.
  • Connect it, then search again.
  • Or remove it: point at it and click the x.

A “Heads up” message

  • “…duplicate set(s) have every copy selected.” Uncheck one copy in each group. Then try again.
  • “…file(s) failed” — some files couldn’t be moved or deleted. The box lists them and why.

My results are gone

  • Results are not kept. Quitting or closing the window erases them.
  • Search again to get them back.

Can I get deleted files back?

  • No. Delete… removes files for good. They do not go to the Trash.
