Something isn't working — what do I do?
Quick answer
Most problems are a permission or Apple Intelligence setting — the message in Recap says which. Still stuck? Email support.
It won’t record
- “Recap needs the microphone.” Turn it on in Settings › Privacy › Microphone.
- Mac, call audio: allow Recap in System Settings › Privacy & Security › Screen & System Audio Recording, then reopen Recap. Or turn off Include call audio.
- Watch: allow the microphone for Recap in Watch Settings.
No transcript
- “Recap needs Speech Recognition.” Turn it on in Settings › Privacy › Speech Recognition. Then tap Create again.
- “No speech was heard in that recording.” Nothing to transcribe.
- “This device can’t transcribe on its own.” Recap never sends audio off the device.
No podcast or notes
- “This device doesn’t support Apple Intelligence.” Recap can’t make a podcast on it.
- “Turn on Apple Intelligence in Settings.”
- “Apple Intelligence is still downloading.” Try again in a little while.
- “The API key was not accepted.” Check the key in Settings › AI.
- “The AI service is busy or out of credit.” Try again shortly.
The voices sound robotic
- Tap Get voices when asked, or Settings › Get better voices.
- Or download natural voices in Settings.
- “The … voice isn’t on this device.” Get voices in Settings › Accessibility › Spoken Content › Voices.
Recordings missing on another device
- Check Settings › Sync with iCloud is on.
- Sign in to iCloud on every device, with the same Apple Account.
- Give it a moment. New files download on their own.
Natural voices won’t download
- “The download didn’t finish.” Check the connection and try again. Use Wi-Fi.
